1988 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Trophy and Uniform Highlight Second Worthridge Auction

Two significant items from the Los Angeles Dodgers last championship will be available in the Worthridge Fall Sports Auction, beginning November 19.IMG_3077

First we have the beautiful World Series trophy presented to Dodgers third baseman Jeff Hamilton. The trophy is manufactured by Balfour, and features brass pennants with all the team names surrounding a brass finial with a crown adornment. Press pin facades of the two World Series combatants are featured in the center area. The brass band around the base is inscribed, “Los Angeles Dodgers / World Championship Trophy / Presented by the Commissioner of Baseball / October 20, 1988 / Jeff Hamilton.” These gorgeous trophies are only given to players and team personnel, making this a highly sought-after addition to any Dodgers collection.

Next is the full road uniform worn by Dodger third baseman Jeff Hamilton from the 1988 World Series. Following Kirk Gibson’s dramatic walk-off home run in Game 1, Series MVP Orel Hershiser shut down the potent A’s lineup in Games 2 and 5. In the Sports Illustrated cover photo shown after the final out of the Game 5 clincher, Jeff Hamilton is seen running into the picture to celebrate with Hershiser and catcher Rick Dempsey, wearing the uniform offered here. This is a tremendous piece of memorabilia from the storied franchise’s most recent World Series championship. It is accompanied by an LOA from Jeff Hamilton.

Worthridge is proud to present this collection, and all items will be a part of their second Sports Memorabilia Auction, running from November 19 until December 6.

In the field he holds the all-time record for both assists and double plays as an outfielder. Hall of Fame Kansas City Chiefs Coach Hank Stram’s Super Bowl IV Ring Highlights Upcoming Auction From Worthridge

Ring of “The Mentor,” NFL Hall of Fame coach Hank Stram “matriculates” its way to auction.IMG_3041

This is your opportunity to own a Super Bowl ring owned by one of the greatest coaches, innovators, motivators, and men in professional football history- Hank Stram.

Close your eyes and you can see the nattily attired Stram patrolling the sidelines, in his navy blue blazer with a red pocket square and Chiefs spearhead logo on the breast pocket, exuberantly leading his 1969 Kansas City team to victory in Super Bowl IV. Thanks to NFL films, we remember Stram enthusiastically telling his Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson to run “65 toss power trap” and encouraging his Chiefs to “keep matriculating the ball down the field.”

The ring, which weighs 26 pennyweight, is 10k gold, featuring a natural one karat diamond surrounded by 10 smaller diamonds (one for each year the franchise spent in the AFL), ranging in size from three to five points, set in a white gold football shaped crest. The crest is set into a glowing synthetic ruby. On one shank is the American Football League seal surrounded by a crown. The three points of the crown list the Chiefs AFL championships- 1962 (as the Dallas Texans) 1966, and 1969. In between the AFL logo and championships is the score of the final title game in AFL history, Chiefs 17, Oakland Raiders 7. At the bottom of the shank is one word- “confidence.” The other shank has the game’s score above the Super Bowl trophy. Over the Super Bowl trophy is an oval shaped globe, symbolizing the Chiefs world championship. On one side of the Lombardi Trophy is a laurel twig, symbolizing achievement and victory. On the other side is a piece of ivy, symbolizing fidelity and immortality. At the bottom of the shank is one word- “poise.”

Also in this collection is a Kansas City Chiefs track suit made for and worn by Stram.

Both items include a letter of authenticity from the Stuart Stram.

Worthridge is proud to present this collection, and all items will be a part of their second Sports Memorabilia Auction, running from November 19 until December 6.

Worthridge Offering Only Known Full Script Signature of Robert E. Lee

Worthridge is proud to offer this autograph from Confederate General Robert E. Lee at its next auction.LeeBlogConfederate General Robert E. Lee served as the face of the Confederate forces in the American Civil War. His own personal story mirrored what much of the country at that time was going through. Lee had strong and significant ties to the Union, having attended the United States Military Academy in the 1820’s, serving with distinction in the Mexican-American War in the late 1830’s, and working as Superintendent at the United States Military Academy in the early 1850’s. At the same time, he also held a strong allegiance to his home state of Virginia. In the end, his devotion to the Old Dominion won out. 11 days after the beginning of the Battle of Fort Sumter, Lee joined the Army of the Confederate States Of America as Commander of the Virginia state forces on April 23, 1861.

Lee’s leadership during the Civil War earned respect and reverence from all. His military acumen, level-handed treatment of his men, and dignity in defeat made him one of America’s finest Generals. Today Fort Lee, Virginia, is named in his honor, as are a multitude of counties, schools, towns, bridges, and city streets. Statues of him adorn Stone Mountain, Georgia, Monument Avenue in Richmond, and numerous other public places, while his image has been featured on a Virginia license plate, several US postage stamps, and continues to hang in thousands of homes.

This is a unique signature from one of the most legendary military leaders in American history. The signature, scribed in dip pen, reads, “Robert E Lee / West Point.” It comes on a 1 1/4 by 1 3/4 piece of paper. Lee attended the United States Military Academy from 1825-1829 and then served as the Academy’s Superintendent from 1852 until 1855. It is believed that this signature comes from his second tour at West Point. This signature, unique with Lee’s full name, offers a truly unique opportunity to own a piece of American history.

Collection of Elvis Presley and “Colonel” Tom Parker Items Featured in Upcoming Worthridge Auction

Starting November 19, “The King” and “The Colonel” are together again in this collection of music memorabilia from Worthridge.

IMG_2730

Collectively, the combination of Elvis Presley and Tom Parker redefined music and the entertainment industry. One became a legend; one was at least a legend in his own mind.

The centerpiece of this collection is a beautiful autographed 16X20 color print of Elvis. The print is textured and has a wonderful patina. It was inscribed, “Bob, Thanks for everything ‘about the budget,’ Elvis Presley.” It was given to longtime television director Bob Finkel to commemorate their work together on Presley’s iconic 1968 Comeback Special.

Presley’s music and presence changed the world of music. From humble beginnings, he became one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. The 1968 Comeback Special reestablished the Presley brand, and further solidified his position as “The King of Rock and Roll.”

Another noteworthy item in this collection is a framed and autographed 10X13 portrait of “The Colonel,” in full Confederate regalia, complete with the Rebel battle flag in the background.

Parker seemed to live in his own world, from his rank (honorarily bestowed by Louisiana Governor and former country singer Jimmie Davis, he used it without fail for the rest of his life), to his own club of con-artists/salesmen (The Snowmen’s League), and he singularly redefined the role of talent agent.

Also included in this collection is a lot of Parker’s “Snowman’s League” ephemera, including a membership card, a piece of letterhead, and a photo business card of “The Colonel’s.”

Worthridge is proud to present this collection, and all items will be a part of their second Memorabilia Auction, running from November 19 until December 6.

What is Immortality Worth?

You can collect baseball cards, cars, paintings, or a thousand other things. You may find dozens of Honus Wagner T206 cards, or a few 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossas. You could even acquire multiple Van Gogh masterpieces. These items are quite rare and valuable, but wouldn’t you rather own something so rare that it’s truly one-of-a-kind? Presented here is the only item given to the family of the late, great Reggie White by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Don’t bother searching for a comparison; there is none.

Offered in the Worthridge.com Summer Sports Auction is the presentation award that was given to White’s widow, Sara, and his son, Jeremy, at his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This singular item represents White’s 15 seasons in the NFL, his appearance in 13 Pro Bowls, 12 All-Pro Selections, 2-Time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, over 1,100 tackles, 198 sacks (ranked 2nd all time and 1st all time including his time in the USFL with a total of 221.5 sacks). White was elected to the 1980’s & 1990’s All-Decade Teams and is represented as an all-around team leader because of his perseverance and determination on and off the field, as well as his dedication to the pursuit of excellence. Reggie White is universally recognized as one of the top ten players in NFL history, and his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is the crowning moment of his distinguished football career.

If someone asked you to name the greatest player to be alive and present at their Hall of Fame induction, you might say Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, or Lawrence Taylor. The Hall of Fame gives these great players two awards: a ring and a jacket. This award is significant and unique in this collection, because of White’s posthumous induction into the HOF. Most every other player is also given a jacket and ring to commemorate the event, however White’s family was only gifted with this sole item to immortalize his legacy and his incomparable career.

Other highlights in the collection include White’s game worn jersey from Super Bowl XXXII, an incredible collection of his game worn shoes from the entire 1996 season including a pair of his Super Bowl XXXI game used shoes, game worn helmets from several NFL superstars, and several trophies awarded to White during his career, as well as numerous game balls and Packers autographs. Also included are two of Reggie White’s game worn Eagles helmets, several game balls awarded to him, his 1989 Mackey Award, his 1991 NFL Alumni Defensive Player of the Year award, and a Randall Cunningham game worn jersey.

After spending the first two years of his career with the USFL’s Memphis Showboats, Reggie White joined the Eagles for the 1985 season. Despite playing just eight seasons in Philadelphia, White is the team record holder with 124 sacks, more than 40 sacks ahead of his nearest competitor. In his second season with the club, White amassed 18 sacks and earned the first of an incredible 13 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.

White’s strike-shortened 1987 season was one of the greatest seasons by any defensive player in history, as he totaled 21 sacks and forced four fumbles in only 12 games. He again led the league in sacks in the 1988 season, and set an NFL record for linemen with 13 pass deflections in 1991. White tallied more than a sack per game in his Eagles career, and is universally considered the greatest player in team history.

Reggie White joined the Green Bay Packers in 1993 as the biggest free agent signing in NFL history. He combined with a young Brett Favre to turn the Packers into instant NFC contenders. After falling just short of the Super Bowl in White’s first three seasons in Green Bay, the duo lifted the team to its first title in almost three decades in the 1996 season. In winning his only championship at any level, White set a Super Bowl record with three sacks. Reggie White spent six seasons in Green Bay, registering 68.5 sacks and winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in his final season with the franchise.

Worthridge is proud to present the Reggie White Collection, and all items will be a part of their debut Sports Memorabilia Auction, running from June 8 to June 29.
