Piedmont Triad’s Worthridge Auctions & Retail Presents The Dick Williams Collection and The Jim Fregosi Collection

Greensboro, NC: May, 2016

A Philadelphia Phillies 1993 National League Championship ring belonging to legendary shortstop Jim Fregosi is currently being auctioned at Worthridge Auctions and Retail. We are proud to offer the public a variety of items including awards, equipment, and autographs from his Philadelphia career as well as his time with the Los Angles Angels. Fregosi was one of the last members of the “original” LA Angels to retire after being sidelined by several injuries, at which time he began his career as their manager.

Also at auction are many awards, autographs, and equipment items belonging to Dick Williams. These span his career from his time with the Red Sox and the Oakland A’s. Williams became manager of the Red Sox after they had several losing seasons and plummeting attendance, and he famously vowed to “win more ballgames than we lose.” Although they lost the 1967 World Series, Williams was named Major League Manager of the Year by The Sporting News for the vast improvement he imposed on his team.

Worthridge is also proud to include hundreds of autographed sports memorabilia items in this auction, which features more than 600 lots. Bidding will begun on Tuesday, May 3 at 10:00 pm eastern time and continue until Tuesday, May 24 at 10:00 pm eastern time. To be eligible for extended bidding, final bids must be submitted before the deadline at 10:00 pm eastern time on May 24th.

The entire catalog can be viewed here

NBA HOF Member Moses Malone High School Letterman Sweater At Auction

December 2015

NBA Hall of Fame member Moses Malone’s high school letterman sweater is currently being auctioned off at Greensboro’s Worthridge Auctions and Retail.  We are proud to offer to the public his letterman sweater and Virginia High School Hall of Fame induction plaque; both items come directly from Moses Malone’s personal estate. Malone played at Petersburg High School in Virginia and helped his high school win back-to-back state championships in 1973 and 1974.  The Hall of Fame induction plaque was presented to Malone in 1991, an honor bestowed upon him in recognition for his life time achievements in Basketball.  Malone is recognized today as one of the unparalleled talents in NBA history.

Moses Eugene Malone, better known as the “Chairman of the Board,” was an American basketball player in both the ABA and the NBA from 1974-1995.  He won one NBA championship in 1983 and was selected as the league and finals MVP for the Philadelphia 76ers; he was also named league MVP three times, including the 1983 season, making him among only a handful of players to ever win professional basketball’s coveted “Triple Crown.” A force in the low post, Malone led the NBA in rebounding six times and finished his career as the all-time leader in offensive rebounds, earning his iconic nickname.

Worthridge President and Owner Rick Kohl shared his excitement at having the unique letterman sweater for auction. “We are truly honored to have this pre-‘Chairman of the Board’ item from Moses’ high school playing days,” said Kohl.

Worthridge’s current auction also features items from masterful three-point shooter Craig Hodges and a collection of items from one of the greatest receiving running backs the NFL has ever seen, Tony Galbreath.  You can preview all the items as well as register and bid at www.worthridge.com. Worthridge’s 2015 Winter Sports Auction ends on December 13th.

If you’d like more information, or to schedule an interview, please email us at info@worthridge.com, or contact our office during normal business hours, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Eastern time.  High resolution photos available upon request.

NFL Great Tony Galbreath Collection At Auction

December 2015

The Tony Galbreath personal collection is currently up for auction at Greensboro’s Worthridge Auctions and Retail. We are pleased to offer to the public items from Tony Galbreath’s 1976-1987 NFL career. Highlights in this collection include Galbreath’s 1986 Super Bowl XXI Player’s Ring (the first ring from this Super Bowl to be offered to the public); his copy of the 1986 Super Bowl XXI Lombardi Trophy, given to him, in addition to the ring, in recognition of the teams victory; and his 1985 NFL All-Time Pass Reception Trophy, awarded to him for becoming the NFL’s all-time leading receiving running back (one of only two trophies ever issued by the NFL for this accomplishment). Other game-used equipment, autographed items, and collectibles round out the Galbreath collection.

Tony Dale Galbreath is a former American football running back in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Giants. He played college football at the University of Missouri and was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft. He was a part of the Saints’ legendary “Thunder and Lightning” running back tandem, playing “Lightning” to Chuck Muncie’s “Thunder.” Galbreath was also noted for his pass-blocking ability, a skill which proved invaluable to the Giants in their 1986 Super Bowl victory. His greatest asset, however, may have been his pass-catching ability coming out of the backfield; upon his retirement, he had 490 career receptions, making him the NFL’s then all-time leading receiver among running backs.  He is now enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.

“We are pleased to present these items on behalf of a truly great character and amazing athlete,” stated Rick Kohl, owner of Worthridge.

Worthridge’s current auction also features items from NBA Hall of Fame member Moses Malone and fellow NBA star and masterful three point shooter Craig Hodges.  You can preview all the items as well as register and bid at www.worthridge.com. Worthridge’s 2015 Winter Sports Auction ends on December 13th.

NBA Legend Craig Hodges’ Collection At Auction

December 2015

The Craig Hodges personal collection is currently up for auction at Greensboro’s Worthridge Auctions and Retail.  The company is proud to present trophies, equipment and collectibles from Hodges’ 1982-1992 NBA career. The most notable items in the collection are Hodges’ two NBA Three-Point Field Goal Percentage Trophies, presented to the master of painting outside the lines, for leading the league in three-point shooting in the ’85 and ’87 seasons, as well as his 1990 and 1992 NBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout Trophies (both of which are the first of their kind to be offered at auction).  Game used Bucks and Bulls equipment, as well as autographed items, round out the Hodges collection.

Craig Anthony Hodges is a former American basketball player, leading the league in three-point shooting three times during his ten seasons as a NBA player.  Hodges is one of only two players, along with Larry Bird, to win three consecutive three-point contests at the NBA All-Star weekend in 1990, 1991, and 1992.  He most notably played four seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and won two championships with the legendary Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls teams. He is now one of the coaches for the Westchester Knicks of the NBA development league.

“We are truly pleased to have the opportunity to offer these Hall of Fame caliber items to the public from one of the greatest three-point shooters of all time,” stated Rick Kohl, owner of Worthridge.

Worthridge’s current auction also features items from NBA Hall of Fame member Moses Malone and a collection of items from one of the greatest receiving running backs the NFL has ever seen, Tony Galbreath.  You can preview all the items as well as register and bid at www.worthridge.com. Piedmont Triad’s Worthridge Presents Stanley Cup Championship Silver and Vintage Game Used and Autographed Items in its Current Auction

KERNERSVILLE, NC – April, 2015
A collection of 1950’s Stanley Cup Championship silver is currently up for bid at auction from Kernersville’s Worthridge Auctions. Silver serving pieces, commemorating Detroit Red Wing championships in 1952 and 1954, were presented to members of the team whose names were etched on the Stanley Cup.

“The one thing that is always guaranteed to generate interest is items given to players on championship teams,” states Rick Kohl, owner of the local auction house. Behind the play of the legendary Gordie Howe, the Red Wings captured the Stanley Cup four times in the 1950’s. Silver serving pieces were presented to members of the NHL Champions, much like rings are given to players of title-winning teams today. “We are excited to have the opportunity to represent these museum quality pieces, as well as all of the other outstanding items in our current auction.”

Worthridge’s current auction also features a dinner program honoring Eddie Shore from 1933 with 25 autographs, a 1971 Calder Cup championship ring, a game-worn 1970’s Team Canada sweater, and the trophy presented to NHL Iron Man Johnny Wilson in 1959. The auction ends Saturday, April 11.

Worthridge is the culmination of over 25 years of sports memorabilia and collectibles experience. The company began as a small baseball card store, and over the years has offered some of the finest memorabilia to ever enter the market.
